University of the Aegean 

Theano S. Terkenli is Professor and founding member of the first Department of Geography in Greece, University of the Aegean, since 1994. Faculty at the Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Tourism Planning, Administration and Policy, (University of the Aegean), since 1999, and at the International Interdepartmental M.Sc. in Sustainable Tourism Development: Cultural Heritage, Environment, Society (Harokopeion University, University of the Aegean, Université-Paris I- Panthéon Sorbonne), since 2018. Ph.D. in Geography, University of Minnesota—Twin Cities, USA (1986-1993); M.Sc. in Landscape Architecture, University of Wisconsin—Madison, USA (1983-1986).

Areas of scientific research, publishing and teaching span Human Geography, with an emphasis on Cultural Geography, Landscape Studies and Critical Perspectives to Tourism. Active member and organizer of conferences, board member of a large number of international and Greek scientific associations and organizations, and journal editorial boards. Leadership and organizational roles ranging from research teams to international events, at the forefront of geographical research, education and community service. Long series of lectures by invitation, as well as awards and grants, such as the prestigious Roy Wolfe Award 2017, ‘for outstanding contributions to the field and discipline of recreation, tourism and sports geography’, from the American Association of Geographers—Recreation, Tourism and Sport Specialty Group.
