2023 Call for Applications

The International Master Programme (MSc) “Sustainable Tourism Development: Heritage, Environment, Society” launches its 6th year of operation and invites those interested to submit their candidacy for the academic year 2023-2024. The Programme is implemented through the pioneer cooperation of three Universities; Harokopio University of Athens (Department of Economics and Sustainable Development, Department of Geography, Department of Informatics and Telematics), the University of Paris 1 – Panthéon Sorbonne (IREST – Institut de Recherche et d’ Etudes Supérieures du Tourisme) and the University of the Aegean (Department of Business Administration).

Why This Programme

The Master’s Programme is a double degree Programme that results in the award of two diplomas to the student. The diploma that is offered at Harokopio University of Athens and the one that is offered at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University are two separate and independent diplomas.
The Programme focuses on the provision of high-level qualifications for professions related to Tourism Science and Heritage. The subject of the Master’s Programme is the provision of specialized studies in the scientific field of Sustainable Tourism Development through heritage.
In particular, it aims at the specialized training of postgraduate students in subjects related to:

03. Cultural Tourism

04. Heritage Management and Marketing

05. Development and Management of Tourist Destinations

The Programme

The Master’s Programme is a full-time programme made up of two (2) academic semesters (12 months). Lectures are held by professors of Harokopio University of Athens, of the University of the Aegean and of IREST- Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, as well as by invited speakers who may be academics, researchers or professionals. All courses are taught in English and are held at Harokopio University of Athens.

Admission Requirements

The selection process of applicants involves the following steps: a) Application Folder; b) Screening and pre-selection; c) Interview; d) Assessment; e) Decision.

Fees

The Master’s Programme is self-financed. The total cost for each participant amounts to € 4,500, payable in predetermined installments. The application fee includes a 3-day study trip around Athens, including visits and meetings with tourism and heritage professionals.

Career Opportunities

There are a number of interesting roles within tourism and heritage bodies in the public and private sectors such as working for tour companies, heritage attractions, museums, and hotel groups. You could also work as a consultant in business, as part of a local government team and on planning bodies. In addition, there are jobs available in education, particularly at college and university level. Your degree may enable you to consider studying for a research degree to consolidate your expertise.
